New Roof Installation Process
1.Property Protection
Before replacing a roof, it's essential to take steps to protect your property and minimize potential damage.
1.Clear away any outdoor furniture, decorations, grills, or potted plants from the area directly beneath the workspace to prevent any damage or debris from falling on them.
2.Lay tarps around the perimeter of the house and directly beneath where the roofing work will be performed to catch debris and protect landscaping.
2. Removing The Old Roof
The most efficient tear-off procedure is to pry off the ridge cap shingles with a pry bar and then transition to a roofing tear-off shovel for the rest. Starting at the ridge, work the shovel underneath the shingles and underlayment, prying them up and pushing them down toward the eave. It’s important to remove all the old nails or pound them flat because protruding nails will tear holes in the new shingles.
3.Inspecting The Roof Decking
Once the old roof is removed, we will examine the entire roof deck. This component of your roof provides a base and structural support for the shingles and other roofing materials. We 'll be checking for the following:
Damage to the sheathing
Moist areas
Mildew and rot
And we will make sure if it’s any damaged part we replace using the same material matching the thicknes of the old roof decking.
4.Ice And Water Shield /Underlayment
Another important protective component that goes on next is the underlayment known as the ice and water shield. This sticky fabric lays flat over the edges and valleys of the roof to protect them from water sneaking beneath the shingles and leaking into the home. Ice and water shield is especially effective at prevending ice dams in the winter. Our team takes great care to lay the ice and water shield as flat and straight as possible. It typically sticks to roofs on its own on hot days, but we can also ensure it stays put by nailing it if the weather is cold. We next apply roofing felt over the rest of the decking to further protect it from water damage.
5.New Roof Intallation
Once we’ve laid the roofing felt flush against the decking, the roof is ready for shingles. But before we can put the main shingles on, we must first add the starter shingles.
Installing shingles is one of the easiest steps of the roof installation process. It’s much trickier to get the layers beneath the shingles right. So, this step feels like a breath of fresh air for our professional roofing team. Still, installing shingles takes concentration and precision. Each layer of shingles must overlap the previous layer precisely, and we are careful to place the nails on the right part of the shingle .After we finish with the shingles we install ridge vent at the peak of a roof to allow hot, humid air to escape from the attic or roof space. This is important for maintaining good indoor air quality and preventing moisture buildup, which can lead to mold, mildew, and degradation of roofing materials.
6.Clean Up
When it comes time to clean up, our philosophy is to treat your property better than we’d treat our own. We hold ourselves accountable for this by taking a picture of a home before we begin a project and then making it look even better afterward.
There are several ways we do this, including:
Using a leaf blower to clear out the gutters and all scraps from the roof
Disposing of all roofing materials in a trailer and hauling them away
Sweeping all debris off the deck and driveway
Picking up loose roofing nails with a magnetic roller
Moving any decorations and furniture back to their original spots
As a result, you will not only have a great-looking new roof you can enjoy but a clean yard to admire it from.
